Tickets and subscriptions are already on sell at Eventbook.ro.
The opening will take place on Wednesday 15 of August beginning with 21:30 and it will bring (again) on screen the movies having won the Arkadia ShortFest last prizes: Vibrația (2014, d. Germain Kanda), Acordajul profesorului Octav (2015, d. Germain Kanda), O noapte în Tokoriki (2016, d. Roxana Stroe), Pipa, sexul și omleta (2017, d. Ana-Maria Comănescu).
On each year the Arkadia trophy has been specially made according to the thematic of the festival, by a contemporary artist, and the 5th edition will continue this tradition. We will soon let you know the selected movies for the official competition of this year.
The Arkadia retrospective will be followed by the first movie using painting as an animation technique – Loving Vincent. The polish director Dorota Kobiela together with the Oscar winner, the British Hugh Welchman have co-directed this exceptional full-length movie within a period of 7 years.
The movie starts from an unfinished letter signed by Van Gogh and sets on screen the painter’s existence by the aid of a modern technique which animates his masterpieces. 125 painters from the whole world, among which the Romanian artists Carmen Belean and Cătălina Codreanu, have created the 62.450 oil-painted photograms. For only one second of the movie have been used an average of 12 frameworks, each one manually painted, one after the other. An artist used to paint one picture a day, meaning half-a -second from the movie.
The young female artist Saoirse Ronan, which was nominated for Oscar this year for the best actress in a main role in Lady Bird, give life to the character Marguerite Gachet, while Douglas Booth (Romeo și Julieta, Noe, Ascensiunea lui Jupiter) borrows his voice to Armand Roulin.
The first day of the festival will end towards dawn, after a party which promises a lot of surprises.
