International Short-film Arkadia ShortFest festival has been dedicated at each edition a special evening for fiction Romanian film, with a great success among the audience happy to watch the last years multi-awarded films such as Japanese Dog, Baccalaureate or Two lottery tickets inside alternative spaces .
On the occasion of the fifth edition, the feature film evening displays the debut movie from the director Bogdan Theodor Olteanu, with Silvana Mihai and Florentina Năstase in main roles. Câteva conversații despre o fată foarte înaltă (Several conversations about a very tall girl) will be screened on Saturday, 18 august, from 22:45 in the presence of the director and the team.
The film has been screened for the first time on the 17th edition of Transilvania International Film Festival and internationally at the 72th edition of Edinburgh International Film Festival, in the section European Perspectives. Recently launched in the cinemas around the country, the film presents the struggle of the main characters to build up the beginning of a love story –an ex common friend, a photo album, some online chats, a coffee and a visit. But as they get closer they will have to face problems that separate them.
When it comes to challenges the director had to confront with, he is recalling: “Unfortunately, Romanian movies are having a sad trajectory inside cinemas. Luckily there are more and more events dedicated to cinema and to movies close to this one, and the chances for the public to see them are bigger. Apparently this screening at Arkadia will gather more audience than we had in the last week at all the projctions. This sounds bad, but it is also good.” (Bogdan Th. Olteanu)
The fifth edition of Arkadia ShortFest is taking place between 15 and 18 of august 2018 in a completely new space, near the Corbu beach, Constanţa, close to Unbar. This change will bring new possibilities for the development of the festival, and new opportunities for the close audience. Corbu village offers many leisure activities (nautical sports, fishing, motocross, cycling) and a direct access to major touristic objectives such as Danube delta, Constanţa, Histria and Enisala fortresses. You can find many choices for accommodation and transport on the festival’s site.
This year the festival’s space includes a camping area that can shelter up to 100 persons. Arkadia camping will provide professionally installed camps offered by Decathlon, an official partner for the festival, the access being included in the subscription, within available seats. Checking-in is for Wednesday 15 august, starting from 10:00, at the camping enter zone.
